Welcome to the Go UnPro podcast, a doctor's 52-week journey to an unprocessed life. Now, here is your host Dr. Brent W. Laartz, Associate Professor of Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine, neuroscientist, and best-selling author. All right everyone, welcome to week 25 of a doctor's 52-week journey to an unprocessed life. Can't wait to get into this because first things first, I usually mention this at the end of the podcast, but I wanted to mention it to you because if you are watching this on audio podcast and you prefer it that way, fine, but there are some video Podcast  options out there okay so these are available on YouTube  look for go on pro and look for my last name potentially that might be a good way to search for it the other ways to get to it so YouTube Substack and Spotify has it on video as well and on  sub stack okay so and then on go on pro.

com so if you are watching this and you're on your phone and you want to get it on video and you see that your podcast artis in like a maroon color that means you're on the audio podcast but there is also a video podcast that's in a blue color very similar  appearance but it's in a blue background okay so  that that's first of all second really important to me is  i am raising money for wine women and shoes as a soul man and as a soul man  this is raising money for the children's cancer center in Tampa I’ve volunteered for this place before it is a refuge for children with cancer to enjoy playtime music art family moments in a quiet welcoming atmosphere with other people going through some of the same issues people who are great case managers social workers

entertainment coordinators they have an outdoor basketball court an outdoor playground amazing place for these kids from all ages from two years old up to 18 and some of these kids come back as adults after they survive cancer it's amazing place the website to give is in the comments and in the show notes or go to app.giveffect.com/participants/580513-brent-laartz and I am matching dollar for dollar everything that anyone donates to this cause and I’ve already donated a lot already so amazing charity amazing organization and the wine women and shoes event coming up in November I think it is also an amazing event I think this tickets are already sold out for the actual this event that they're having but they raise money in so many other ways

All right, so what we're going to be talking really briefly here about, I’m not going to belabor this a little bit, we've already talked about this, is how we ingest and inhale and absorb plastics, microplastics and nanoplastics into our system. we ingest, we inhale, and we absorb through the skin. Okay, so this is why potentially these plastics are getting into our system and wreaking havoc on our hormonal systems, on our diabetes control systems, all of these systems, metabolic systems that we have, and our brain for that matter. These nanoparticles of plastics have been found in the brain. The first thing is this, and it's not just about what we're exposed to totally, because a lot of, and I don't know, I think we're probably past the tipping point as far as the amount of plastics that are in our water, you know, the tons and hundreds of thousands of tons.

of plastics that go into our waterways and get into the seafood okay so seafood ingestion um while it is recommended for Omega-3 oils it is one of the ways that we ingest nano plastics and microplastics into our system okay so but the other ways are really what the ways that we can maximize this. And so that's why when I started out in this 26, 25 weeks now out of the 52, the first place we always need to start is in the kitchen with our utensils that we are putting next to our food and putting next to our food that have plastic in them and heated plastic gives off even faster. Okay, so it's kitchen, it's foods, it's avoiding ultra-processed foods.

The more food is processed, the more it's coming in contact with plastics, the more forever chemicals that are added because of needing to preserve the products. But then it's also containers, bottles that we use. And then it is also then once we've started doing that and we've achieved a majority of those types of products, then it comes to other things like things that you wouldn't think about so much like having a wooden. mouse and a wooden keyboard and clothes. Okay. So clothes is potentially an important thing because they have documented that clothes will give off plastic into the air and onto your skin. And potentially if it's a nanoparticle, it could get into the pores and be absorbed into the body.

Let's go with what we're doing with our five pillars this week.

And where we're headed with this is our diet is. evolving some more. And we've had some busy weeks and I've talked about this before that busy weeks and you're at work and you haven't had time to prepare and you haven't had the wherewithal that week to maintain your 100% diet. Every little bit helps and every little bit that you to help you survive later on in life. That depositing for your retirement, similar to your retirement plan, this is your health plan. Your health plan deposits of good outweigh the bad, and hopefully you can minimize that bad. So bad diet can be an issue. And it certainly can be an issue for me because I might be at a place where I need some food and there's nothing but processed food in these doctor's lounges.

And there's the same thing all across this land in cafeterias, at workplaces, etc. Okay so um for movement we're maximizing  getting into the home gym  better and I’ve started to clear out that area to  maintain my own home gym and that way it makes it easier to pick up just 10 minutes and be at the home gym and before that even happens and we talked about this before is maximizing and doing just body weight um calisthenics as it would be these exercises that increase strength and cardiovascular activity without any equipment without any money needed at all it needs all you need is a chair or a  or a floor that's soft etc. and so sleep, one of the main things for me is getting my allergies under control.

So this week, we're working on getting my allergies under control and treated. I take allergy shots because of it. And I think if there is one thing in my overall health at all, I think that, you know, when I do my blood work and my eosinophil count is high and my I don't think that they check an IgE test for the longevity tests that I do, but I do know that my IgE level is through the roof. And despite having allergy shots, it just you know I’m basically what probably what they would term an atopic i am allergic to everything so that kind of thing the potential asthma symptoms that the chronic cough that i have is something that i probably will be the major thing that i can't control

direct medications that then could affect me because i don't want to put steroids into my system and that seems like that might be what's required um all right so connection building a community of health and here's where we're going to plug a little bit of starting week this next week is week 26 and we're starting the second half of the year and we're going to have a celebration  with this um next week we are still in town just before we go to aspen but we're going to have some events in aspen if you can make it to aspen the week of 12th to the 18th of this year 2026 um there is going to be some events there that we're going to have  with there's some running  that's going to occur with a run club there and also some just outdoor walking around there's some ghost tours there and we're going to have some events for  everybody who's attending some of our subscribers who are able to attend.

I can't wait for us all to get together and build this community of health where we are relying on each other to help each other get to a 110 years of age to get to that type of health at 100 years of age where we can still be gardening, running, walking, bicycling. And where we can still be thinking and reading and creative, creating our own art at age 100. So that's where we want to be. OK, so that's what we're doing for connection, building that community of health. Can't wait to ever for everybody to join us there. Plastics this week, the fifth pillar. Here's what we're doing this week. Something I've ignored and is really a major thing because we sleep in our beds for eight to 10 hours every day, and we are putting ourselves right next to plastic.

And what I thought was this good natural fiber with this company that I use for my sheets. And it was very soft and it said microfiber. And I thought, oh, that's natural. This was these. I think I bought these sheets 10 years ago or more. These sheets, I’m replacing them with 100 percent cotton, high fiber count. And that's what's happening this week. Getting rid of that part because. If we're worried about underwear and we're worried about shirts and all of our clothes and anything else coming in contact with us, what comes in contact with our body for eight to 10 hours a day and potentially warm at night, and some of you probably sweat at night, et cetera, you're getting that right next to you.

and potentially inhaling your pillow has that there as well so um thanks for joining me i know this is a pretty short podcast this week  we're doing a chili cook-off today and so it is  imperative that i get to that my girlfriend is presently perturb that I’m doing this podcast right now before the  getting ready for it we have to pack up go and love that  this kind of thing we're making a vegetarian chili  great beans chili is the perfect thing we try to make this every two weeks in our house is that is a perfect leftovers that you can take to work but it's in general if you make it without meat it's going to be a product that is whole foods it's cooked and it includes beans and vitamins and protein there so

um usually at the end I do a recap but I’m going to save that for next week for the 26th week because that's the halfway point 27 weeks is going to be in um aspen we're going to have some live events there we're going to have some  YouTube live some  events where we're live on Substack and  for our subscribers can't wait to get to that  i look forward to seeing you all there if not there but on the live we'll see you on the live pro broadcast and we'll see you soon take care love you love me love yourself talk to you soon thanks
